Yes, you read that subject heading right: We are about three months out from the 2011 RFT Music Showcase, which is taking place on Saturday, June 4, on Washington Avenue. More details on this are TBA, once we know more. As every year, however, the music showcase features bands, musicians and artists nominated for RFT Music Awards. (The showcase doesn't have an open application process, unfortunately.)
Like the good little organized Virgo that she is, A to Z is already thinking about this year's ballot (seriously), and wanted to open up thoughts to the general public. Who should get nominations this year? Who's had a really exceptional year, music-wise? What categories should be futzed with/changed -- and if so, what should the alternatives be? Don't just complain or grumble that something was wrong or that something sucked -- some feedback why it didn't work, and what could be different this year, would be helpful. ALSO NOTE: This is limited to St. Louis/regional artists only. Don't nominate national acts.
To be clear, A to Z takes these fan-generated comments/suggestions of bands/musicians and combines them with input from writers and other music community regulars when we cobble together a ballot of music awards nominees. It's not a one-person job or nominating process.
Note: Do not spam the comments with street-teaming. We know bands post this to Facebook or Twitter and tell fans to go have their say. That will not help; it'll just be annoying. Give us good, measured reasons why your favorite band is the best.
To spur on conversation, I've included last year's categories and winners below. Otherwise, comment away!
