Soilent Green are New Orleans's finest metal sons. The quintet has been laying down a barrage of Bayou blast-beats and Southern-fried sludge for the past seventeen years, despite numerous lineup changes and terrible setbacks (i.e., two separate van accidents that caused bone-shattering injuries to various band members). But while many groups would've called it quits, Soilent Green's newest album,
Confrontation, shows the band's determination to press on. The disc further polishes the sound Soilent Green had seemingly perfected on its prior album,
A Deleted Symphony for the Beaten Down: a collision of both Pantera- and Skynyrd-style riffs, dual kick-drum destruction and disorienting tempo twists and turns. Don't let the corny name keep you away -- Soilent Green is a metalhead's delight.
