As host of The Space Parlour on KDHX (88.1 FM), Nick Acquisto pulls double-duty. In addition to playing great indie rock, oddball folk and hot jazz on his Thursday-night program, he invites great local acts to play live on his show. Acquisto collects these performances for the Live in St. Louis series, a compilation album that functions as a stellar showcase of our little 'burg's talent. From the skewed pop of the Ottomen to the piano pounding of the Paper Dolls and onto the drama-school rock of St. Louis ex-pat Kristeen Young, this year's model (the third of the series) provides a handy road map to some of this town's finest pop, folk and experimental groups. To celebrate the release of the CD, Acquisto and company have been throwing a series of release shows. The final installment takes place Friday night with math-rock wizards the Pat Sajak Assassins, eardrum brutalizers Glass Teeth, noise-rock supergroup N. Nomurai and spaced-out pop mangler Tory Z. Starbuck. Showgoers will receive a copy of the CD with admission, and all proceeds benefit KDHX.
