Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers

$10. 314-727-4444.

Hard-touring Northampton, Massachusetts, rocker Stephen Kellogg suffers from a rare personality disorder called Yornsteen-ism. On good days, the afflicted think they're the Boss; on bad days, it's Pete Yorn. Kellogg has seen more bad than good, but even his worst adult-alternative-isms possess unexpected warmth, like the college jock you always hated until he tossed you a smoke while humming "Promised Land." (And at least Kellogg never thinks he's Dave Matthews.) On their self-titled major-label release, Kellogg's backing band the Sixers never kick out enough sparks to ignite the garage, but their grooves have some gospel and twang, and their leader a voice like a throwback white soul singer who's got a lock on the feel but is still searching for the right songs.
