When Scene of Irony singer/guitarist Moe Holmes went to take a mid-afternoon nap on Sunday, he didn't expect to wake up a victim of theft.

After performing at a show at 2720 Cherokee the night before, he'd parked his band's 9' by 5' trailer beside his garage before turning in for the night. The next day, following some early morning errands, he returned home for a siesta. When he awoke, the trailer was gone.

“I’ve never had any theft problems or concerns in my garage, so that’s why this is such a shock,” Holmes told Riverfront Times on Tuesday.

The trailer itself is particularly unique, as it is covered in hundreds of stickers from bands Scene of Irony has performed with over the years. Simply put, it sticks out like a sore thumb.

“I always thought that people would be idiots to steal this thing," Holmes told us. "It has Scene of Irony stickers all over it, it’s so recognizable — where are they gonna go? Everybody’s seen that trailer.”

Holmes was right to question the intelligence of the perpetrator. Within less than a week, according to a post on Holmes' Facebook page, the trailer has been recovered and the suspect is in custody.

"Thank you Saint Louis Police for finding my trailer," Holmes writes. "Cheers to you!"

The gracious remarks are accompanied by a selfie Holmes took with the suspect in the case, who is in cuffs, and is the only person in the photo not wearing a smile on his face. The photo itself is pretty epic, and certainly satisfying for anyone who has ever been a victim of the increasing rash of gear theft in St. Louis.

The lesson? For musicians: Wallpaper your stuff in stickers! For thieves: Maybe avoid stealing things that would be easily identifiable from space.
