Have you ever noticed how you can't spell "Cherokee" without "Cher"? Well, someone did, because tomorrow on Cherokee Street, folks will attempt to break the world record for gathering the most Cher impersonators at once. If that prospect doesn't excite you, not to worry -- there are plenty of other options to get into this weekend. LouFest takes over Forest Park, so stay tuned for ongoing coverage. Alternatively, check out Pü Fest for a completely different experience. Plenty more shows await in this weekend's recommendations.

Friday (September 5):

Austin Mahone w/ Fifth Harmony, Shawn Mendes, Alex Angelo @ The Fox Theatre 7 p.m. | $25-$65 If you've ever been interested in what Justin Bieber looks like from the ground up, I think this is the guy to look at now. An interesting sociological study. (DH)

DJ Spinn w/ DJ Paypal, DJ Earl, DMY @ The Billiken Club 8 p.m. | $8 School's back in session, which means showtime on the campus stage. The first Saint Louis University concert of the fall season features Chicago footwork artist DJ Spinn. Chizmo.tv provides live projections to set the scene for a dance party. (MS)

Clairy Browne & the Bangin' Rackettes w/ Robbie & the Rockin' Fools @ The Firebird 7 p.m. | $15-$18 This well-coordinated nine-piece soul band comes all the way from the land down under, so catch them while you can. Bonus: free performance at Vintage Vinyl earlier in the day. (MS)

D.R.I w/ Fun with Napalm, Tropical Storm @ Fubar 8:30 p.m. | $15-$18 These dudes pretty much pioneered crossover thrash, the head-on collision of hardcore punk with thrash metal. Legendary. (MS)

Clairy Browne & the Bangin' Rackettes

Guitardog presents: A Farewell to 3211 Cherokee w/ Chris Black and the Eagles of Unemployment, Leonard the Band, the Maness Brothers, Old Capital Square Dance Club @ Livery Company 8 p.m. | $5 This will be the last show at Livery Company's original space before it moves down the block to the former Radio Cherokee space. Come hungry -- Guitardog's serving up some "fried Paducah Kentucky-style bologna sandwich bites." (MS)

Kenny Rogers @ Liberty Bank Amphitheater 7 p.m. | $35 A no-brainer; he's a superstar. Pick up a bucket of chicken and have yourself a time. (DH)

Orgone w/ Hal Greens, DJ MAKossa @ Old Rock House 10:30 p.m. | $12/$15 Space-funk, from space. Consistently funky. You know what to expect. Cool that this band clearly likes St. Louis so much. (DH)

Pü Fest w/ The Conformists, Faultfinder, Transmontane, Worried Mothers, Nerv, Plack Blague, Sioux City Pete & the Beggars, Digital Leather, Eric Hall, Slut River, Nervosas, Bug Chaser, Lechuguillas, KneeGrowPleeze, Black James @ Empire Hall 1 p.m. | $20-$35 This festival offers an alternative to LouFest this weekend on Cherokee Street. Reggae All Stars w/ The Faulties, Dub Heezy, DJ Trouhble, Jah Albert @ 2720 Cherokee 8 p.m. | $7-$10 Quality reggae and free jerk wings! Show up early and stuff your face. (DH)

The Steeldrivers @ Old Rock House 7 p.m. | $20-$27 High-quality Nashville bluegrass on Rounder Records. As good as you'd expect for almost ten years now. (DH)
