It's a rare occasion to welcome a St. Louis band whose admitted influences include classic K Records-style pop acts such as Tiger Trap and Cub. The 75s play their debut shows this weekend, and if the three songs on their MySpace page are any kind of accurate indication, we're all in for a treat. "Finders Keepers" and "Fight for Me" are ragged, bittersweet crash-pop at its finest, while "Oh Tommy Oh" recalls the sad, defiant ballads on early albums by the Ramones and Muffs. The trio's already been acclaimed on British Web sites well-schooled in indie-pop history (www.indie-mp3.co.uk/ 2007/07/75s.html), which hasn't happened to a local band since a young Bunnygrunt released its first single in the mid-'90s.
