The Bangles

$25. 314-726-6161.

It took a bitter breakup, sweet make up and fifteen years between albums for the Bangles to release the remarkable Doll Revolution, a sometimes lush, sometimes biting deconstruction of the silly "girl group" label. Revolution serves as a reminder that the Bangles were always more than the shiny, pretty playmates for LA's Paisley Underground scene. The band was clever and artful, and often frank in its sexual politics. Even when it ran out of good material (although a new album is rumored to be in the works), the meticulous harmonies of sisters Debbi and Vicki Peterson and the guileless, lightly rasped voice of Susanna Hoffs always sounded the way pop should — like the soundtrack to the best day of your life.
