Are you sick of being responsible? Does it annoy you to have to follow rules or be pro-social? Do you like basements? Well, if you are a goofy, degenerate weirdo who doesn't quite fit in anywhere else, you might consider our city's DIY hardcore/punk shows.Your underlying anger problems can be brought out to their fullest potential (in a positive way). These are my recommendations for great local and national bands that don't play five-minute (marathon!) songs or remind you about drink specials. General rule of thumb: If you have five bucks and can show up by 9 pm., then it's go time in the pit. One, Two, Fuck You!

Lemuria with the See, Trauma Harness and Times Beach at the Firebird July 8 8 p.m. / $10-$12:

This typical summer night will be known as the show where dorky St. Louis post-punks struck back against staring at their record/vhs collections at home. Lemuria plays a 20-30 minute set of songs that all sound like the Sealab 2021 theme song, if it was expanded on and taken seriously. Little Rock's the See bring the gloom, then paint it black and thick. Trauma Harness is going to insist that they don't play with dolls, they play with action figures. Times Beach (ex Masculine Journey/current Totally Gay Cop) will blow your ear drums out and you'll still see the ridiculous amount of musicianship, noise, and pop sensibility.
