Pomade addicts, Bettie Page wannabes and twang-bangers alike make sure to tune in to Al Swacker's Greaser's Lunchbox program each Thursday afternoon on KDHX (88.1 FM). Swacker's preferred style of music can most easily be filed under the "rockabilly" label, but each week the show traces the history of rock & roll through its nascent stages — from outlaw icon Hasil Adkins to punk pioneers the Misfits and on through to modern rockabilly saviors such as Dave Alvin. Unsurprisingly, Swacker has assembled a rogue's gallery of six-string slingers to play his birthday party, which is colloquially known as the Greaser's Lunchbox Tenth Anniversary Celebration. Everett Dean, the self-described "Hillbilly Flash" from Chicago, will headline the show, while local favorites 7 Shot Screamers and the Trip Daddys will remind the audience why this soulful, sweaty music has flourished in St. Louis for so long.
