Somewhere between the vocational crisis that leads singers to think they're authors (Colin Meloy) and leads authors to believe they're singers (Neal Pollack), folk duo the Nields found a way to fuse the rocking and the writing. In 2004 sisters Katryna and Nerissa Nields released their eleventh record, This Town Is Wrong, as a companion to Nerissa's book of the same name. The book/album concerns two young girls who use songwriting to ease the onset of the teenage years; how much biography is laced through these songs is anyone's guess. The Nields sisters appear to be skewing even younger these days, with plans for an upcoming children's record bringing their close harmonies and almost-supernatural vocal vibrato to a whole new generation of folk-rock fans.
