The Ten Best Shows In St. Louis This Weekend: November 16 to 18

So I've been doing this "No Shave November" thing, purely based on my own laziness and disdain for repetitive tasks (I'm also looking forward to "Multiple-Weeks -in-the-Same-Jeans -Without-Washing -them-December"), but I gotta say, it's not working out. I look like a madman. My facial hair grows in mangy patches, on account my Irish / English blood colliding headlong with my Native American heritage. At thirty years old, I still can't grow a mustache, for example, but the rest of my face has wild, longish untamed hairs clumped together in sparsely populated patches. This isn't going nearly as well as "Fuck Showering September" did -- Oh, the freedom!

Shows this weekend!: Seattle's Trial comes to Fubar on Saturday; X up and challenge the floor to a fight -- fuck that guy. Power-pop pioneers the dB's play Blueberry Hill, also on Saturday; check out this week's music feature on the band by Mike Appelstein; it's a good one. Local noise duo Spelling Bee release an excellent new LP at Apop, also also on Saturday; make sure to grab a copy. The rest of our picks follow.

Carolina Chocolate Drops @ The Sheldon 8:00 p.m. | $25-$30 Maybe these guys have to help people find the vitality in hundred-year-old music in other towns, but not in St. Louis. Not when our past is so steeped in the blues, not when Chuck Berry plays every month or when our most popular band is aping the '20s. But man, is this is a vital band, and so the Sheldon continues its insanely stacked 100th season. (KM)

Deicide @ The Firebird 8:00 p.m | $15/$18 Brand an upside-down cross into your forehead and join the fun! I got a buddy that wants to see if Glenn Benton will autograph a gun for him. I think that's hilarious. (DH)

Future Islands @ Off Broadway w/ Dope Body, Talk Normal 8:00 p.m. | $12/$14 It's going to be weird and loud and cool. Go check that out. (KM)

The Urge @ The Pageant Friday AND Saturday shows 8:00 p.m. | $25-$35 Yeah, I liked "Receiving the Gift of Flavor" a bunch when I was a kid; wanna fight about it? (DH)

Trial @ Fubar w/ Everything Went Black, Hollow Earth, Perfect People 7:00 p.m. | $12 Seattle hardcore's Trial reunited following several one-off shows in 2009 and a European tour in late 2011; the band seems to be fully active again but no new releases have been announced. Either way their live show is not to be missed by fans of politically charged straight edge hardcore.(DH)
