John Henry & The Engine @ Off Broadway w/ The Feed 9:00 p.m. | $10/$13 John Henry and the Engine is one of the finest rock & roll bands this city has to offer and the band doesn't offer it to you very often these days. Enjoy it while you can; the openers have plenty of steam, too. (KM)
Supersuckers @ The Firebird w/ Fat Tramp Food Stamp 9:00 p.m | $15 The Supersuckers, also known as the "Greatest Rock & Roll Band in the World", bring their slacker anthems and hard-partyin' ways to the Firebird. Wear your drinkin' shoes. (DH)
The dB's @ Blueberry Hill 7:00 p.m. | $15 The power pop legend hasn't lost a step since its heyday some thirty-plus years ago. Each of its members has kept busy barely behind the scenes for a while now and this reunion feels more like a continuation. (KM)
Spelling Bee LP Release Show @ Apop Records w/ Googolplexia, Kikimora , Britches, Forget The Times, Trauma Harness 8:00 p.m. | free Yeah, yeah, both members of Spelling Bee write for the RFT. Anyone who has heard the record they'll be releasing here will tell you we'd be idiots not to include the show in this rundown -- it's the band's most adrenaline-inducing work yet. (KM)
Sunday:
Dethklok @ The Pageant w/ All That Remains, Machine Head, The Black Dahlia Murder 6:30 p.m. | $36 It is interesting to note that of the two big death metal shows coming to town this weekend, the real one is playing at a smaller venue while the cartoon one plays the Pageant. I don't know what that means I guess, I just think it's interesting. (DH)
