Well that Bieber review sure took off. I got word earlier this week that it recently became the most-read post in RFT Music history (to anyone who missed it, a friend and I snuck booze into the Justin Bieber show at Scottrade and got kicked out, then wrote a review about it). Anyway so yeah, it's Bieber fever all week around the office, wooooooooh! (Or, I should say, "EEEEEEeeeEEEeeee!!")
Anyway, troubling however is the pervy left turn the comments section (now over 90 comments) has taken. I'm going to avoid being charged with libel and just leave the explanation at that, but yeah, read and see for yourself.
There's shows this weekend -- ones decidedly better than Justin Bieber. Politico-pop-punksters Propagandhi play the Firebird this Sunday; I wish I could have crammed more "P" words into this sentence. It started off pretty good. The venerable Jackson Browne will play the Fox on Friday, if you got a spare $40 laying around. Finally, Shovels and Rope play Off Broadway on Saturday -- old timey tunes for old-timey folks. The rest of our picks follow.
Friday:
Art Attack @ Plush 4:00 p.m. | $15 Watch works of art be pitted against one another until one is ripped to shreds by a chainsaw (or a variety of other destructive demises). Art is fun! (DH)
Jackson Browne @ The Fox Theatre 8:00 p.m | $43.50-$58.50 This guy, this guy might just end up being more than arm candy for Nico. I dunno. Just keep your eye out. (KM)
Fresh and Onlys @ The Firebird 7:00 p.m. | $10/$12 That whole sunny garage rock thing doesn't get much better than this. (KM)
Saturday:
Chuck Mead & His Grassy Knoll Boys @ Blueberry Hill 9:00 p.m. | $12.50-$15 The prolific Chuck Mead returns to St. Louis with His Grassy Knoll Boys in tow. For fans of Old Crow Medicine Show, Elizabeth Cook, Jamie Johnson and Bobby Bare -- all of whom, by the way, make guest appearances on Mead's latest album, Back At The Quonset Hut.
Shovels and Rope @ Off Broadway w/ Shivering Timbers 9:00 p.m. | $10/$13 O' Be Joyful is one of the year's more aptly titled releases and is earning heaps of (deserved) adulation from anyone bothering to express an opinion. For fans of beautiful harmonies and elegant songwriting. (KM)
