The Jans Project - Friday @ Off Broadway

The office has been hectic lately. Next week is our big Best Of St. Louis issue. Things have occasionally gotten ugly; the "motherfuckers" are flying with unusual frequency, weary staffers are resorting to puns (puns!) in conversation and the jello shots just don't seem to have enough kick to 'em lately.

Be strong, work friends; the end is near. Might I suggest you take in a show this weekend, once this ordeal is behind us? Week after week we post these show picks for our readers, but this time I'm looking at you.

Dread Zeppelin is playing at Blueberry Hill tonight; that's just down the street from the office! We could walk there. Too tired? Fine, catch some Zzzz's tonight. Blue's City Deli's Streetfest starts tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.; we could unwind there instead.

Eavesdropping, eh loyal reader? Okay, I guess you can hang out with us too -- check out all of our weekend picks below.

Friday:

Kutt Calhoun @ Heartbreakers Rock-n-Roll Saloon w/ Jonny Lang 7:00 p.m. | $10 KC rapper Kutt Calhoun, frequent Tech N9ne collaborator (again: KC rapper), has experienced some breakthrough success in his career -- he's a big presence and a great balance to the hyperactive Tech. (KM)

Strung Out @ The Firebird w/ The Swellers, Such Gold, Sink The Bismark 7:30 p.m. | $18-$20 Strung Out's latest release was a greatest-hits affair, increasing the likelihood that the band will play its old school hits like "The Exhumation of Virginia Madison." The Fat Wreck Chords band has been playing for over 20 years now, giving them plenty of material to draw from. (DH)

The Jans Project @ Off Broadway w/ The Deciders, Rough Shop 9:00 p.m. | $8/$11 Friends and longtime rock scene heroes from across the river return to St. Louis with some new-ish St. Louis back up vocalists. (KM)

Dread Zeppelin @ Blueberry Hill 8:00 p.m. | $17.50 Dread Zeppelin is a fat guy in an Elvis costume (Vegas-era), playing reggae versions of Led Zeppelin songs, among other things. Which is incredible. I mean Beavis and Butthead are fans, so you'll be in good company. (DH)

Awolnation @ The Pageant w/ Imagine Dragons, Zeale 8:00 p.m. | $20-$22.50 Yeah, I like Awolnation; wanna fight about it? (DH)

Saturday: Kutt Calhoun - Friday @ Heartbreakers

Matthew Sweet @ Blueberry Hill 8:00 p.m. | $20 Matthew Sweet makes his second Blueberry Hill appearance in as many years, still milking the classic Girlfriend. We aren't complaining at all. (KM)

Blues City Deli Streetfest @ Blues City Deli w/ The Funky Butt Brass Band, Morry and The Special 20's, Nikki Hill, Miss Jubilee, Matt Hill and The Deep Fryed 2, Big Mike Aguirre, Blu City Allstars 1:00 p.m. | Free A more St. Louis place you will not find this weekend than Blues City Deli, where hometown horn-blowers and cajun-influenced acts provide the soundtrack to one of the most exquisite sandwiches you'll find anywhere along the Mississippi. (KM)

The Humanoids @ Lemmons w/ Bricklayer, The Haddonfields, Black for a Second, Orange Iguana 11:55 p.m. | $5 St. Louis' premier D4-style pop-punkers The Humanoids haven't played in a few months and their energetic live shows are always a good time. Plus Lemmons has some of the best pizza in town, so there's that too. (DH)

Death of Yeti CD Release Show @ Mangia Italiano w/ Pat Sajak Assasins 10:00 p.m. | Free There aren't too many people making as mighty, deliberate a guitar racket in St. Louis, as we learned last year at the band's Tower Groove Records carnival performance. (KM)

Tragic Kingdom @ Attitudes 10:00 p.m. | Free This show is four drag queens paying homage to No Doubt's 1995 release by playing it from start to finish and performing a drag show tribute. To put it another way, everything about this show is awesome. (DH)
