With open Big Star space, the guitars resound and the rhythm section does what a good rhythm section should do: move songs forward, even when the lyrics drag them back to the lovelorn-stoner couch. Sometimes Gispert can't even be bothered to find a good rhyme — "If you're on the one-eighteen, I'll find you on the one-eighteen" is (no shit, dude) irrefutable — but when his scrunched yelp breaks into a howl and the ample hooks sink in, the band almost lives up to the Rolling Stone and Fader raves.
