It's been awhile since we've written about Family Affair (other than adding their name to the nominees for Best Hip-hop Duo in the RFT music awards) but twin brothers Mr. Rep and Q.B. The Classic have a new album coming out tonight that could quite possibly reinvent the definition of an "EP."

The duo debuts The Family Blessing EP tonight at Club Viva, with a listening and release party.

Of course, it's not just any regular quick and easy EP: the record includes 16 songs.

"It started off at 5 or 7 tracks," explains Q.B. "Then we went recording and got 50 tracks. We narrowed it down to 20 and then 13 and now it's back up to 16."

According to Wikipedia, EP is short for "Extended Play" and the term dates back to 7-inch vinyl records that debuted in the 1940's. Today, generally speaking, any record with four or fewer tracks or between 8 and 30 minutes long, qualifies as an EP. The entry lists a few anomalies, such as Marilyn Manson's 54-minute Smells Like Children EP, and Relient K's 74-minute The Bird and the Bee Sides EP.

Asked about their 16-track monster stacks up, QB laughs and says, "It was an EP at first and then it turned into an album-type thing. I guess it's a new-style EP."

Doors at the club open at 9 p.m., the cover is $5, and ladies get in free until 11 p.m.
