I'm such a sucker for rock songs with a big pop hook and vague hints of piano, twang and dance. Which is why I like the Carolina Liar single "I'm Not Over." (Oh, and Swedish uber-producer Max Martin has his hand in the song, and many of the band members appear to have Swedish names, judging by the umlauts and duplicate vowels and consonants in a row. Again, why I cannot resist this tune. I'm weak. I blame my childhood radio habits.)
Still, I didn't connect the dots between the song and the band and their Duck Room show -- which is tonight -- until last week. Really, everything about the band and single screams '90s alt-rock: the quasi-mysterious name, the upbeat but sort of nostalgic tune, the glossy production sheen. Still, a catchy song is a catchy song.
