WASHINGTON WALTZ

Loft District clubs set their booking sights high

Speaking of Satan, if you can stand the stuffed shirts and drunken frat dudes -- which is a lot to ask, we know -- the music pumping from Washington Avenue clubs these days has been, generally, damned good, and it stands to get better as the end of the year approaches. In addition to the remarkable Carl Cox and company, who are spinning at Cheetah on Friday (see "Bump-Bump in the Night"), the club has booked some of the biggest DJ names in the world over in the next few months, including NYC's Bad Boy Bill and San Francisco's DRC. Rumor has it that the beginning of the year will bring both Los Angeles tour de force DJ Dan and -- get this -- London superstar Sasha (yep, him, partner of Digweed).

Over at Velvet, the Superstars of Love have moved their Sunday-night gig to the more reasonable Wednesday night, which should push them further toward world domination. The Superstars are rollin' these days: They tore the American apart as openers for the Chemical Brothers a few weeks back, and their upcoming Halloween rave is looking to be the party of the night: It features Detroit proto-techno legend Carl Craig, along with sets by Sandra Collins, resident DJ at Twilo (NYC's hottest club); local luminaries Bodaleg (from Boogie Knights) and Stan Doublin (from Kindred Grooves); and perennials Jon Gotti, Justin Foster and Hypo, among others. In all, this is the shit on Halloween night -- mark our words -- and if you're looking for more info, swing by Deep Grooves on Delmar and grab one of the fantastic alien fliers the Superstars have printed up -- or check www.superstarsoflove.com.
