Zach Hill

Drummers routinely practice a form of self-martyrdom by sacrificing individuality in the name of taste. Zach Hill is not one of those drummers. Whether he's making a racket as half of math-rock juggernaut Hella, acting as percussionist and producer for shred diva Marnie Stern or providing the twisted backbone for Team Sleep (the side project of Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno), Hill plays uncompromisingly like Zach Hill — which is to say, he plays fast, loud and cleverly complicated. Like the screens of cascading ones and zeroes from The Matrix, Hill toes the line between rigid order and utter chaos. Zach's current tour features improvised duets between himself and like-minded guitarist Nick Reinhart from hyper-avant-garde group Tera Melos. In this instance, we're putting our money on the chaos.
