Berry Meets Perry

Perry + Berry = Merry.

Wednesday night at Chuck Berry's 80th birthday gig at Blueberry Hill's Duck Room, a long-haired guitarist jumped onstage during the third or fourth song.

"Hmm," I said to myself. "That looks like Joe Perry of Aerosmith."

Then, as he kept playing, it dawned on me: "Holy shit, that IS Joe Perry of Aerosmith!" Perry only stayed onstage for a song-and-a-half or so -- probably so as not to take the spotlight away from Chuck (a classy move) -- but his presence sure helped set the tone for the festive night.

I'll have more on the show in my column on October 26.
