Video: Madness Shills for Colgate "Blue Minty Gel" and Honda's CITY on YouTube

Posted By on Wed, Jun 4, 2008 at 11:24 AM

No, I'm not sure how I stumbled upon these adverts on YouTube. But the first is a jingle for Colgate's "blue minty gel" from the '80s, sung to the tune of "Baggy Trousers" by Madness. It's pretty amazing -- and proves that things sung with a British accent are just that much cooler. Always. Vid here, real song after the jump.

Also please enjoy the band doing the jig for Honda's CITY car -- which apparently was never sold in America. The song is "In the City," and the song's cry of "City city city city" is replaced by...well, watch it and giggle.

Madness, "Baggy Trousers":

(I had forgotten how much I love that song AND Madness. I see exactly why I loved Blur in high school...)

"In the City":
