VooDoo Lounge at Harrah's Casino Becoming a Dueling Piano Bar on the Weekends

Last week, rumors surfaced on Facebook that the VooDoo Café and Lounge at Harrah's Casino was changing its programming. As it turns out, score one for Facebook gossip hounds: At least on the weekends, local bands are out, and dueling pianos are in. The Monsterball Halloween show with local rockers The Real Me is the last concert in the venue's current format.

Lindy Kirsch, advertising and public relations manager at Harrah's St. Louis, confirmed the rumors in an interview with A to Z.

"The rumors are true," she says. "On November 19, VooDoo will remain VooDoo, but on Friday and Saturday nights, we'll feature dueling pianos from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. It's been a really nice treat to feature the bands in VooDoo.

"In no way does this mean we won't be supporting live local music," she added, stressing that 90 percent of the pianists are local St. Louis musicians.

The Lounge will be closed for private VIP showings from November 5-13, and the new format will be unveiled to the public on November 19. The reason for the switch?

"We just believe that this is something that's a great fit for us and our customers," Kirsch says. "It's a highly interactive party atmosphere that's going to fit Harrah's really well." She added that Harrah's is "continuing to support and offer live local music" elsewhere in the casino: Local and national acts can still play at Sammy's Beach Bar and Grill.

"Sammy's opens at 3 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday," Kirsch notes. "Any of those nights you might find a local band playing there."

Harrah's will continue to host national acts once or twice a month. Shows currently scheduled include country artist Josh Gracin on November 4 and Cowboy Mouth on New Year's Eve.
