Welcome to "In the Studio," an occasional feature wherein local bands tell us the status of new music. Are you recording? Let us know via email.

Who: Blood Pony Where: The Sea is a Sound Studios With Whom: Skip Johnston When: August - November 2010 Release Date?: January 22, 2011 at Off Broadway with Pretty Little Empire & 3 Dollar Band (KC) What recording: Says James Walker: "We're working on our first full-length record to follow up the six-song EP we released last December. The final record should have nine to ten songs and is currently in the mixing process."

Sounds Like: "We started working on new songs shortly after the E.P. was released and managed to crank out a bunch of songs in just a couple of months," Walker says. "This record has a nice continuity to it. The E.P. was all over the place, as we were still learning how to be a band. We added 2 additional permanent members since the last recording, Tori Walters and Theron Perkowski, who have joined in singing and playing various instruments, giving everything a really huge and complex sound. All of us listen to really different types of music and I think those influences are really shining on all of the new songs. There's definitely a lot more energy to these and are a lot of fun to play and listen too."

MP3: Blood Pony, "Coming Home (unmastered, rough mix)"
