Just before the holidays, the St. Louis Secret Sound Society put out a call for local musicians to send in a cappella tracks for a secret, mystery project. (All details will be revealed later in 2011.) Bands and musicians in all genres were directed to email MP3s to queries@stlsss.org by Monday, January 24.

My immediate response of, "Huh, this sounds cool," was tempered with wariness -- after all, some musicians might be hesitant to send out their music for free, especially without knowing how it's going to be used. So, I expressed this concern to the operatives behind the Society -- and one member had this to say:

First and foremost, Secret Sound Society is excited and hopeful that this will be a chance to discover new tracks and artists from the St. Louis music community for our mutual enjoyment and benefit. As musicians, DJs, promoters, etc. ourselves we have incredible respect and admiration for fellow St. Louis musicians and wanted to take this opportunity to find artists who were willing to collaborate with us and submit their music for consideration. Artists can rest assured that if their music is chosen from this initial call then they will be contacted so that they can give their full consent before their track is used.
