Teresajenee Returns with Electric Yellow! Listening Party Tomorrow -- Lead Single Right Here

Posted By on Wed, Jun 13, 2012 at 11:59 AM

Teresajenee is back in a blinding flash. Her new tape, Electric Yellow is out officially on July 3rd, but you can preview the title track below. It's been almost three years since her remarkable debut, The Love Ecklectic. Upon its release RFT Music Editor Annie Zaleski said, "What anchors the album is her expressive voice, which can coo like a new mother or wail like a church soloist. Think Lauryn Hill or Erykah Badu -- and that just scratches the surface."

Since then, TJ has toured both coasts, collaborated with a wide range of artists and generally kept busy. And tomorrow (Thursday, June 14), she'll host a listening party for her new major project: the "super tape" Electric Yellow. It's starts at 6 p.m. at Ziezo (6394 Delmar Blvd). DJ Agile-One will kick the night off, Michael Franco will perform and TJ herself will play a few songs as well. Admission is free, and there will be complimentary drinks from Pearl Vodka.

This tape will be followed by a proper full-length album sometime later this year. But both projects almost didn't happen at all. "I was really tapped out on my music," she says. The demands of being an indie musician are a lot to handle on their own, and there have been trials outside that as well. "You gotta live a real life as well. It was getting to the point where I was like, 'I'm not sure if I can do this.'"

But then she meet Glynnis Avellone of Plug File, who helped her remove some roadblocks and got her recording time in Shock City Studios.

The result is this tape, which features fifteen tracks, a collaboration with Black Spade and production work from The Eclectic Beings, Abnormal, Blake Symphony, Urban Legendz, Spade and Teresajenee herself. "It's a miracle project," says TJ. "I'm just happy to be doing music."

She wrote and produced the title track, which you can hear for the first time right here. About the title, she says, "I think of bold, brave, daring music. I think of super bright sunshine and synthesizers and just crazy sonics."

Full tracklist and listening party poster are on the next page.
