St. Louis Named One of the Best Cities in the U.S. For Rap Fans by Complex Magazine

Last week Complex Magazine published a list of the best fifteen cities in the United States for rap fans right now, and St. Louis made the list!

St. Louis is used to being placed on lists -- painfully so. From "most miserable" to "highest murder rate" to "most stds," St. Louis' consistent inclusion can be disheartening. But this one's a good one, for a change!

At number fifteen, we barely squeaked in there, with Minneapolis being next in line at number fourteen. LA, New York and Atlanta occupied the top three slots, predictably.

Cited as evidence for our city's inclusion on the list are our "local legends": Nelly, St. Lunatics, Chingy, J-Kwon and Murphy Lee are noted. Tef Poe, Scripts n' Screwz and Rockwell Knuckles (nevermind that little move to the East coast, I guess) are listed as current talent.

The Pageant, Coliseum Music Lounge, Cicero's and Blueberry Hill are noted as good places to see hip-hop in St. Louis (obviously that list is seriously lacking -- where's the Gramophone? How about Atomic Cowboy / the Demo?) but still. Oh and S.L.U.M.Fest is rightfully recognized as the city's best hip-hop party -- they definitely got that one right

You can read more here. Here's to St. Louis' hip-hop community for making its mark and getting the recognition it deserves. Now let's keep on climbing up this list!
