The Ten Best Shows in St. Louis This Weekend: September 20 to September 22

Posted By on Fri, Sep 20, 2013 at 8:01 AM

Andrew WK returns to a St. Louis stage this Friday, September 20 @ Fubar - JASON STOFF FOR RFT

It has come to my attention as of late that we have an extremely accident-prone music editor (of course, he tends to put himself in relatively risky situations). This week he's been hobbling around in bandages and gauze with bloodstains on his clothes for some reason. I'm not sure of the details. I don't ask questions.

Why not take a walk on the wild side as well? This weekend plays host to plenty of wild times. Andrew WK's back in town, and Life in Color aka the world's largest paint party stops by the Lou, too. Play it safe or take a risk with this weekend's recommendations.

Friday (September 20):

Andrew WK w/ The Scam, 431 @ Fubar 8:30 p.m. | $17-$20 So this is another solo tour (meaning no backing band again; just A-Dub and a keyboard) but that didn't stop a packed crowd at the Firebird from getting rowdy last time he came through. Expect party anthems and motivational speeches from rock& roll's one man party machine. (DH)

Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn @ The Sheldon 8 p.m. | $35-$40 Dueling banjos! Two of the instruments' most creative and proficient players join forces at the Sheldon. (DH)

Also on Friday night, check out Black Prairie and An Undercover Weekend 7, previewed previously on RFT Music. Click on the links to read about them.

Saturday (September 21):

The Bump & Hustle No. 15 w/ DJ Clockwork, Kool Hersh, DJ MAKossa, Nappy DJ Needles, Hal Greens @ Blank Space 10 p.m. | $5 The Bump & Hustle series continues with more records spun by your favorite St. Louis DJs. Now on its fifteenth edition! (DH)

Old Webster Jazz and Blues Festival w/ Scott Air Force Band, Marquise Knox Band, Miss Jubilee and the Humdingers, Webster University Jazz Ensemble, David Dee & the Hot Tracks, Blue Like Jazz, Willie Akins/Montez Coleman Band, Sarah Jane & the Blue Notes, Webster Groves High School Jazz Band, North of the Quarter, PoJazz with Dwigth Biktofer and Raven Wolf @ Webster Groves 12 p.m. | free Bring a lawn chair and prepare ears for a day full of blues tunes. The event is family-friendly and features plenty of food, drink and activities for the kids. (MS)

Tower Groove Singles Club Release w/ Peck of Dirty, Little Big Bangs, Tok @ The Heavy Anchor 9 p.m. | $5 If you missed the release of Little Big Bangs' debut album, or if you, like us, just can't get enough of them, check them out at this Tower Groove release show alongside two of St. Louis' greatest rock acts. (MS)
