Temperatures get really low over the next few days, but don't let that freeze up weekend activities. Aquitaine and Mound City Slickers release new CDs, and St. Louis gets some musical guests from out-of-town including Bobby Bare Jr. and Turkuaz. Learn about these shows and more after the jump, and let us know how you'll kick off the new year by telling everyone what else is going on in the comments.

Friday (January 3):

Aquitaine CD Release w/ Hidden Lakes, The Vondrukes @ The Firebird 9 p.m. | $7 Check out our latest edition of Homespun for a review of Aquitaine's American Pulverizer, Part 2, what music critic Christian Schaeffer refers to as "swirling shoegaze enveloped in fuzz." (MS)

Diesel Island @ Off Broadway 9 p.m. | free Start the new year off right on a tighter budget by checking out this free show featuring what we've dubbed the best traditional country band in town from last year's RFT Music Awards. (MS)

Mound City Slickers CD Release @ The Focal Point 8 p.m. | $10/$15 From the band's Facebook page: "We came, we saw, we played fiddle tunes." Simple as that. Be sure to pick up the new CD! (DH)

Monogram Suitcase @ Shameless Grounds 7:30 p.m. | free New lineup for 2014! MS just added two new players to the mix; be one of the first to see it. (DH)
