St. Louis Record Store Day 2014: A Comprehensive Guide

Posted By on Thu, Apr 17, 2014 at 9:26 AM

Like South by Southwest, Record Store Day is now such an ingrained part of the culture that it has its own abbreviation: RSD. Hatched in 2008 as a way to bring attention to struggling record shops, RSD has become a yearly event. This year Record Store Day falls on Saturday, April 19. And once again, area record stores will be going all out to celebrate -- and hopefully sell a few records in the process.

As we noted last year, the so-called "RSD Exclusives" are, in many ways, beside the point. For every interesting release or long-deleted repressing, there are at least as many that are merely overpriced versions of the same old stuff. We'll be looking out for special pressings by the JBs (on Get On Down, the current standard-bearer for classy rap and R&B reissues), Bis and Half Japanese. However, it's likely we'll only spend a short time in the "RSD Exclusives" section before browsing the used bins, enjoying some live music and having a beer or two.

This year, we're presenting the RSD schedule in a handy list format to help you plot your route. All times are obviously subject to change. If we've left out anyone or anything important, let us know.
