All year long, we at RFT Music scour the city in search of exceptional bands to share, but at the top of every summer we stop to take stock of the homegrown talent in our own backyard. The annual RFT Music Awards is a snapshot of the St. Louis music scene at large, and one we like to take with the help of the greater community.

So, we would like to humbly ask for your help in nominating the best and brightest musical acts in our city. If you don't feel like an expert, you're not alone! Whether you attend five local shows a week or dabble in the occasional cover band once or twice a year, make your voice heard in the comments section below. We're not looking for intense analysis here, just a list of your personal favorites. If you feel like any one genre or style needs more recognition, let us know that too!

The official ballot is made from a mix of your suggestions and the results from a nominating committee — a panel of music writers, radio DJs, record store employees and venue owners throughout the city. We aim to provide a definitive guide of St. Louis music for the year ahead and we can't do this without your help.

In keeping with tradition, many of the nominated acts will be part of the annual RFT Music Showcase – to be held again this year in the Grove. The list of nominees will be revealed one week from today on April 28, so don't hesitate. And if you know of any local music experts, the kind who would gladly impart their knowledge to us, please pass this along.

If you need a little help getting started, have a look at last year's winners on the next page:
