Writing in her blog on U.S. News & World Report, Mary Kate Cary says three liberals with degrees in law and working motherhood -- Caroline Kennedy, Marian Wright Edelman (founder of the Children's Defense Fund) and Senator Claire McCaskill -- would make great Supreme Court judges...but that McCaskill is the favorite.
Writes Cary:
All three would bring a unique--and much-needed--voice to the Supreme Court, but my vote goes to Claire McCaskill because of her work experience both as a waitress and a prosecutor, her life as a single mom, and her family responsibilities taking care of both young children and an aging parent. I also like the fact that unlike the majority of the current Supreme Court justices, she graduated from a state university rather than an Ivy League law school. Sends a good message to all those hard-working women at law schools around the country.
McCaskill's official bio says she put herself through law school by waiting restaurant tables.
The senator, who is close to President Obama, gives no hints she's even being considered. Her Twitter page shows she's been busy the last few days meeting with auto peeps, getting stuck in a Hill tram and falling into a trance before HGTV.
