A Year Ago Today: Christopher Coleman Introduced Us To a New Kind of Monster

It was a bright sunny morning -- just like today -- when a year ago Christopher Coleman called the Columbia, Illinois, police.

The 32-year-old Coleman, an evangelical Christian and bodyguard for a televangelist, said he was at the gym for a pre-dawn workout and was concerned that his wife Sheri and their two young boys, Garett and Gavin, weren't answering the home phone.

Police arrived at Coleman's house at 6:52 a.m. on May 5, 2009, to find Sheri and the boys strangled to death and graffiti spray-painted on the walls of the home. Later police would discover that Coleman kept a mistress in Florida, and told the woman he would soon be leaving his wife to marry her.

Authorities would also discover that the email threats that Coleman said he had received from a mad-man bent on killing him and his family originated from Coleman's personal laptop computer.

Coleman has maintained his innocence. A trial is scheduled for later this year in Monroe County. Last month a judge agreed to bring in jurors from outside the St. Louis region on the belief that local residents may have already formed an opinion about Coleman.

Ya think?
