Brewster McCracken, a candidate for mayor of Austin, Texas, bowed out of the race this morning.

McCracken made news here a couple weeks ago when he created an online campaign video warning Austinites not to become like St. Louis -- a once great city that McCracken now referred to as something of an urban wasteland.

On Saturday, McCracken and another candidate were the two top vote-getters in a crowded field that demanded a run-off election. But citing an uphill battle against an opponent with a large lead, McCracken withdrew from the the run-off this morning.

McCracken can take solace in knowing that he earned at least one victory in the race. Last week readers of Daily RFT voted him "Ass Clown of the Week."
