The driver--whose name has not been released--- will, however, keep his job with First Student, the contractor who operates busses for several local schools.
"After review of the driver's actions during this event," school district superintendent Greg Moats said, "It has been determined that this driver will no longer transport district 201 students."First Student decided to transfer the driver despite stating that he "followed correct procedure" by not stopping the bus during the fights. In videos of the incident, the driver can be heard shouting for the kids to "sit down" and "cool it" and contacting school officials via radio to report the fights and make sure a nurse was waiting to treat the bleeding victim.
The Belleville-News Democrat continues its blanket coverage of the story. Check there for more details, including this statement from First Student:
Maureen Richmond, the spokesman, said the company suspended the driver while they conducted an internal investigation, which was completed Wednesday.
"We are confident our driver did follow the correct procedure during the altercation he witnessed, and he will be reinstated," Richmond said.
