Chidi Ahanotu: Former St. Louis Ram Ordered to Surrender Conference Championship Ring

A ring given to St. Louis Rams' players following the team's 2001 NFC championship is at the center of a nasty divorce trial in Florida.

Yesterday a judge in Tampa ordered Chidi Ahanotu, a former defensive end for the Rams, to surrender the ring to pay for part of his ex-wife's legal fees.

Ahanotu had tried to switch ownership of the ring -- valued as high as $20,000 but probably worth much less -- to his brother. But the judge ruled that the jewelry should go to his ex-wife's attorney. Ahanotu was none too pleased with the ruling.

"This court system is a farce," Ahanotu is quoted as saying in the Tampa Tribune. "This court wants a man to hand over his once-in-a-lifetime accomplishment to pay some damn attorney's fees?"
