Casino Queen, my Lord you're mean;
I've been gambling like a fiend on your tables so green. -- Wilco
It seems the former city administrator for Brentwood had been living the life of an (alt.) country song. And now his tawdry and high-rollin' ways finally caught up to him.
Christopher Seemayer, Brentwood's longtime city administrator, pleaded guilty this week in federal court to embezzling tens of thousands of dollars from the city. Seemayer used the money for gambling at the Casino Queen in East St. Louis.
From January to December last year, and again from January 1 to March 5 of this year, Seemayer embezzled approximately $30,000 by taking numerous unauthorized cash advances on Brentwood credit card for the purpose of gambling at the Casino Queen casino. Brentwood officials were unaware of this use, did not authorize any such cash advances, and unwittingly paid the credit card charges from city operating funds.
Seemayer, 52, of Fenton, pleaded guilty to two felony counts of federal program theft before United States District Judge Catherine D. Perry. Each count carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000 when he's sentenced on September 14.
