The downtown St. Louis sculpture garden, Citygarden, has won that major award for which it was named a finalist last month.

Yesterday, the Urban Land Institute awarded Citygarden its Amanda Burden Open Space Award. The annual honor recognizes the best use of public open space in the nation that encourages regeneration and the transformation of the surrounding community.

Citygarden beat out four other finalists -- two from Portland and two from Houston -- in winning the award. Beyond the honor and glory of winning, it includes a $10,000 check for upkeep of the public space.
