Creve Coeur City Council to Vote on Enhanced Smoking Ban Tonight

Arguing that the St. Louis County smoking ban was a "great start," Creve Coeur councilwoman Beth Kistner is pushing her west county suburb to adopt even more stringent measures to prohibit indoor smoking.

Unlike the county ban, which goes into effect this coming January, Kistner's bill would allow few exemptions. "The loopholes (of the county ban) undermine the purpose, which is to make clean air a right for all the people in all public places and also to protect employees," Kistner tells KTVI Channel 2.

Kistner's bill would prohibit smoking inside any private club that employs a staff. That includes  the town's American Legion Post, whose military veterans argue that they fought for freedoms,  such as the right to smoke.

The Creve Coeur bill could get final passage tonight at the council's 7:30 p.m. meeting. Read a copy of the bill here.
