Good news St. Louis: Now you can send your children to a school that's as environmentally friendly as the one where Barack and Michelle Obama send their daughters.

That's right. Crossroads College Preparatory School was recently awarded a platinum LEED certification, the highest environmental distinction recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council.

The school -- located in St. Louis' DeBaliviere Neighborhood -- is only the sixth educational facility in the nation to achieve a platinum LEED distinction.

All told, the school spent over $20 million last year outfitting its existing facility to become more energy efficient and constructing a new science and library building.

Crossroads will receive a plaque from the USGBC and host a celebration ceremony this Friday afternoon at 2:45 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
