A St. Louis jury convicted Darryl Moore last week of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in shooting death of Kevin Sanders Jr. in the 5200 block of Highland in April 2009.

The jury recommended that Moore -- just 18 -- serve life in prison, though it's likely he'll serve less than that when he's sentenced in November. St. Louis prosecutors had wanted Moore to be convicted of first-degree murder -- a crime that would mandate that he serve life without the possibility of parole.

During last week's trial, the victim's father -- Kevin Sanders Sr. -- testified to witnessing his 20-year-old son, Kevin Sanders Jr., get shot in the head and chest by Moore in broad daylight. Lamont Jenkins, another witness testifying to the murder last week, contradicted statements he made in an earlier deposition in which he claimed to too claimed to see Moore shoot Sanders.
