Did I hear you right, Ethel? They're taking away the White Pages!?
Here's an update to a story we posted back in April about AT&T's request to stop delivering the White Pages directories to every home in metro St. Louis.

The state's Public Service Commission is planning a hearing next week in St. Louis to let area residents weigh in on the proposal that would allow the phone company to deliver free White Pages only to those people who request a copy.

AT&T has argued that the White Pages are used less and less these days thanks to the Internet and cell phones (which aren't listed in the books) and are therefore a waste of paper and money. (Note: Just don't dare suggest the same about AT&T's business directory, the Yellow Pages!)

The hearing will take place July 8 at the Emerson Center on the campus of Harris-Stowe State University (3026 Laclede Ave., St. Louis). A question-and-answer session will be held at 5:30 p.m. and the hearing will begin at 6 p.m.
