Keshawn Hampton had been drinking before a car crash that killed his baby son, police say.
A Florissant teen had been drinking before flipping his car last summer in a crash that killed his fourteen-month-old son, authorities say.
Keshawn Hampton, 19, was charged today with a driving while intoxicated — death of another. He was speeding and messing with the stereo shortly before 9 p.m. on June 23 when this Mazda 5 sideswiped a line of park cars on Sherwood Forest Drive in Florissant and rolled onto its roof, according to St. Louis County police.
His son, Keshawn Hampton Jr., was taken to a hospital but died of blunt force trauma. Police said the elder Hampton smelled like alcohol and was slurring his speech after the crash. A blood test confirmed he was over the legal limit, authorities say.
There were two other passengers — a twenty-year-old woman and an unknown man. The woman was treated for minor injuries, but the man ran off, police say.
Officers took Hampton into custody the night of the crash. He was wanted on an unrelated burglary charge. That case is still pending.
