The family of Orlanda Smith is still attempting to come to grips with a violent incident that befell them two years ago tomorrow. Smith's mother was leaving for work early on September 16, 2009, when three masked gunmen forced her back inside her north-county home and demanded that she take them to where her son was sleeping.

One of the gunmen then shot 23-year-old Orlanda Smith dead as he greeted the suspects at his bedroom door. The three suspects -- described only as black males -- fled on foot around 5:30 a.m. and were last seen running toward Pohlman Road in the Seven Hills area of Florissant.

On the two-year anniversary of his death, Smith's family and friends have now offered a $4,000 reward to anyone who can offer information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. That's in addition to a $1,000 reward offered through CrimeStoppers.

The identification of tipsters is confidential and people may leave information anonymously as well. Those with information are encouraged to call CrimeStoppers at 866-371-8477. CrimeStoppers does not have voice-mail or caller ID. Tips can also be left anonymously at
