St. Louis police revealed that an armed robbery occurred at 11 p.m. Wednesday night in the 500 block of South Broadway outside Busch Stadium (above), one that had several similarities to an armed robbery Sunday night in the Central West End.
In Wednesday's incident, police say a group of five women were walking in the 500 block of South Broadway when a man with a gun ordered the women to place their purses on the ground and hand over their jewelry. Two women walking nearby were drawn into the crime in progress; one of them offered to hand over her valuables, while the other quickly walked away from the robbery.
The gunman gathered four purses, two cellphones, three wallets, credit cards and IDs belonging to at least four women, then fled in a maroon or burgundy SUV, either a Ford Explorer or a Mercury Mountaineer.
Police Chief Dan Isom announced that in response to the city's uptick in aggravated assaults, he's shifting police officers from the 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. shift to the 6 p.m.-to-2 a.m. shift to have more officers available during the busier nighttime hours.
