Organizers for the 2011 NYC Midnight Short Story Challenge are looking for entrants, and this is the last day to apply.
The international contest is split into two rounds. In Round 1, contestants have a week to produce an original short story, no more than 2,500 words, based on an assigned genre and subject (e.g., comedy/hunting, or sci-fi/a blind date). Finalists who ascend to Round 2 are given 24 hours to churn out another yarn, with the winner receiving a substantial cash prize and instant recognition.
The entry fee is $49. The contest is open to story-tellers of all skill levels, so even if your writing sucks, it'll be evaluated by a panel of judges, with feedback sent your way. To register, click here.
The mission of NYC Midnight is to discover talented filmmakers and storytellers from around the world and provide them with an outlet for their creativity. The Short Story Challenge is one of several of the group's annual competitions that have resulted in works selected for various festivals, including Cannes and Sundance.
