Free Comic Day! When you were a child, comic books fell into your life like rain, thanks to the spending power of the divine beings known as Mom and Dad. One day every year, comic books come to you with no cash outlay on your part, courtesy of the area comic retailers participating in Free Comic Book Day. Your immediate question — “Yeah, but are they any good?” — is rude, but fair. Yeah, the freebies are good. Steve Rude and Mike Baron’s superhero space adventure resumes (after ten freakin’ years!) in the Nexus Special 2007, Lynda Barry’s droll-cruel sensibilities shine in the Lynda Barry Sampler, and the world-wide wonder of Charles Schulz fills 32 priceless pages in Unseen Peanuts.
Worship with Them: The best churchin’ is done at the Church Key (4127 Manchester Avenue; 314-601-3828) over $1 bottles every night from 6 to 10 p.m. After that, you’ll only have to pay full price for an hour and a half, because $1 Natty Light drafts kick in at 11:30 p.m. and run until closing time (1:30 a.m.). As Leonard Cohen and Jeff Buckley might say, “Hallelujah.”
It’s Vapor, Dude: The Grateful Inn (7336 Manchester Road, Maplewood; 314-647-3323) is running a vapor sale from 11:30 a.m. on, and today’s the last day to catch a whiff. You’ve never vapored before? Get with it!

Days! Plays! Yays!: Suzan-Lori Parks went to the trouble of writing a play a day for a whole year, so the theatrical communities of America thought it’d be a good idea to perform each of these brief plays in a relay-race across the country. It’s called 365 Plays/365 Days, and the Tin Ceiling has the honor this weekend — and their love don’t cost a thing. Tin Ceiling’s even providing food and drink, as well as live music, because they’re classy like that. Sunday night it starts at 7 p.m., and don’t forget, it’s fuggin’ free — but if you want to donate a little cash by way of saying “thank you,” that’d be a kind and much-appreciated gesture of decent humanity on your part.
Hair Care: The hair goes up as Hairball 11 goes down at the Pageant (6161 Delmar Boulevard) at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $25 to $35, so do it up — the proceeds benefit Saint Martha’s Hall, a charity that assists battered women and their kids.
Go Girl: Girl Boutique (26 Maryland Plaza; 314-361-4475) celebrates its one-year anniversary with cupcakes — and the ladies there are sharing. It’ll be sweet (and the clothes are presh, too!). The shop is open from noon to 5 p.m.
