Freaky Friday: You do realize it’s Friday the 13th, right? Even if you are much too sensible for superstitions, the Milton School (1320 Milton Road) in Alton, Illinois, supplies all kinds of paranormal activities from 6 to 11 p.m. Legend has it that the school has been a hotbed for haunting, and you can enter this spirit world for free, or tour the entire building for $25 at 8 and 11:30 p.m. Click here to find out more.
Somebody to Love: Don’t miss the legendary Grace Slick from 6 to 9 p.m. this evening and again on Saturday at Wentworth Gallery. Located on the lower level of West County Center (80 West County Center; 314-288-2020), the gallery will feature artwork from the Jefferson Airplane singer-songwriter. Sax and The City: Fans of the brass section get excited: It’s the grand opening of Saxquest Saxophone Museum today! A litany of events (found here) include free live performances and clinics from noon to 6:30 p.m. Or if you’d like to toot your own horn, show up at 5 p.m. for an open jam session. Located at 2114 Cherokee Street, the museum and new storefront boasts many exotic saxophones such as original pre-Civil War Adolphe Sax horns. For more information, call 314-664-1234.
Splish Splash: Get out of the lazy river and into the third annual Wave House National Flow Series Competition. From 1 to 4 p.m. at Splash City Family Waterpark (10 Gateway Drive, Collinsville, IL; 618-346-4571), witness the country’s best bodyboarders go head-to-head for a spot in a national championship in San Diego. Beer and Bikinis: Get ready for busty babes donning next to nothing at Trueman’s Place Annual Bikini Contest. Grab a $13 bucket o’ beer and a front row seat at 1818 Sidney Street before the 2 p.m. show. Admission is $5, or if you’re daring enough (and 18 or older), be a contestant for free. Soak Him In Love: Your dad still loves you after that seven-year mug-giving stint, but he’ll appreciate the creativity of the Father’s Day Splash and Spray. Getting super-soaked by the kids will be a hoot, especially if it’s one of those St. Louis summer days. Bring daddy and the wee ones The Butterfly House (15193 Olive Boulevard, Chesterfield; 636-530-0076) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is $4 to $6, and kids 3 years and under enjoy this all for free. Also, the first 50 people through the door receive one free Magic House pass!
Daddy Day Care: Pamper your pop further at the Father’s Day Barbecue Lunch at Mount Pleasant Winery (5634 High Street, Augusta, MO; 800-467-9463). A plentiful buffet with pork steaks, baked beans, potato salad and much more certainly will sate the old man’s appetite. Top that off with a little wine, many laughs and a picturesque Missouri River Valley backdrop, and you will have one very pleased parental. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door (drinks not included).
Too Darn Hot: If the wine and water pistol shower weren’t enough fun for dad, head to Cool Down St. Louis’ Softball Benefit in Lyon Park (Broadway and Arsenal across from the Anheuser-Busch Brewery). The game starts at 2 p.m. Admittance includes a $20 donation to benefit the summer project of Heat-Up St. Louis, which will help those at risk of heat-related deaths.
