At first we weren't sure if golf pro
Bob Gaus qualified for a putt-putt tournament or the real thing. After all, his home base of
Tower Tee Golf and Recreation Complex in south county doesn't conjure up images of golfing greats with its three-par "executive" course, batting cages, driving range and mini-golf course.
We were wrong. Despite its lack of pedigree, Tower Tee boasts one of the best golf pros in town in Gaus -- who's
already played in the U.S. Open and three PGA championships. Next month's (August 13-16) PGA tournament at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota will be the fourth time he's played in the major tournament.
The 48-year-old Gaus earned his berth by finishing in the top 20 this month at the 42nd PGA Professional National Championship in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico.
Best of all, you too can play with Gaus and for a pretty good price. Tower Tee lists his
teaching rate at $50 for 45 minutes and $100 for a 9-hole "playing lesson."
