A 72-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman were walking through the alley in the 3800 block of Spring (below) in south St. Louis Saturday morning when they were viciously attacked by two men and two women.

The incident occurred around 10:45 a.m. April 16 with the male victim, Hoang Nguyen of the 3700 block of nearby Chippewa, dying later that day at an area hospital. The woman, who police have not identified, was in serious condition on Saturday with bruises and cuts.

Police say they're unsure what prompted the incident. The suspects all fled when a vehicle approached the scene. Anyone with information about this grisly crime is encouraged to call CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS.
